Cast HBO Max to Your TV with Chromecast
Want to watch Max on your TV? Chromecast makes it easy. Here's how to set it up.
What You Need
- Google Chromecast (any generation) or TV with Chromecast built-in
- Max subscription
- Smartphone, tablet, or computer on the same WiFi network
- The Max app (mobile) or Chrome browser (computer)
Method 1: Cast from Mobile App (Easiest)
#### Setup
1. Ensure your Chromecast and phone are on the same WiFi network
2. Open the Max app on your phone
3. Start playing any video
4. Tap the Cast icon (rectangle with WiFi waves) in the top right
5. Select your Chromecast device
6. The video will appear on your TV!
#### Controls
- Use your phone as a remote
- Play, pause, rewind from the app
- Adjust volume on your phone or TV remote
Method 2: Cast from Chrome Browser
#### Setup
1. Open Google Chrome on your computer
2. Go to max.com and sign in
3. Start playing content
4. Right-click anywhere on the video
5. Select "Cast..."
6. Choose your Chromecast device
Pro tip: For better quality, click the three dots menu in Chrome > Cast > Sources > Cast tab. This casts just the tab, not your whole screen.
Method 3: Chromecast with Google TV
If you have Chromecast with Google TV (the one with a remote):
1. Navigate to the Max app on your Chromecast home screen
2. If not installed, go to Apps > Search > "Max"
3. Install and open the app
4. Sign in with your Max credentials
5. Browse and play directly - no casting needed!
Troubleshooting
#### "Can't find Chromecast"
- Verify both devices are on the same WiFi network
- Restart your Chromecast (unplug for 10 seconds)
- Restart the Max app
- Check if Chromecast appears in the Google Home app
#### "Video won't play on TV"
- Check your internet speed (10+ Mbps recommended)
- Try a lower quality setting in Max
- Restart both devices
#### "Audio but no video" or vice versa
- Stop casting and try again
- Update your Max app
- Check HDMI connection to TV
Picture Quality Tips
For the best streaming quality:
- Use 5GHz WiFi if available (faster than 2.4GHz)
- Position router closer to Chromecast
- Close other bandwidth-heavy apps
- Consider ethernet adapter for Chromecast Ultra
Comparing Chromecast Options
| Device | Max Resolution | Price | Remote |
| Chromecast (3rd gen) | 1080p | $30 | No (phone) |
| Chromecast with Google TV (HD) | 1080p | $30 | Yes |
| Chromecast with Google TV (4K) | 4K HDR | $50 | Yes |
Alternative: Screen Mirroring
If casting doesn't work, you can mirror your entire screen:
1. On Android: Settings > Connected devices > Cast
2. On iPhone: Use an Apple TV instead (Chromecast doesn't support AirPlay)
Enjoy Max on the big screen!
